Molecular Geo- & Palaeobiology Lab
Welcome to the website of the Molecular Geobiology and Palaeobiology Lab at the Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences, Palaeontology & Geobiology, of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) in Munich.

Molecular Geobiology and Paleobiology studies the present and past interactions between geo- and biosphere, the rates and patterns of evolution, integrating data from the living organisms and the fossil record, using molecular biology tools.

Our research focusses on the biodiversity and evolution primarily of marine organisms and their symbionts, and on the evolution of biomineralization.

We use techniques that range from molecular biology to genomics and reconcile the results with data from the fossil record, to investigate the secrets of life, its origin and evolution, and its past, present, and future functions.
